markerB&Q FUNDRAISING

228

B&Q announced this year that their charity of the year was Youth Work Ireland! And as the Canal Communities Regional Youth Service is their only member in Dublin we were offered four weekends to fundraise via bucket collections and staff BIKE IT Events in Liffey Valley and Tallaght.  We are now half way through the year and two of the collections have been done and the B&Q staff teams in both Liffey Valley and Tallaght have worked tirelessly cycling for 48hours in store to raise money for the Canal Communities Regional Youth Service and associated groups!  This has been a great success with two local Groups:  The Oblates Basketball Club and Bluebell CDP taking up a store each in July and shaking their buckets for a great cause!  Thanks to these efforts Bluebell CDP were able to give the Community and Young People a great summer fun day!  And the Oblates Basketball Club are now another step closer to sending some of their Young Basketball Players to play in America!  Well done everyone so far and keep those buckets shaking!

markerClimbing Wall Events 2011

Climbing Wall

Great fun was had over the last few weeks on the Canal Communities Regional Youth Service Climbing Wall! Almost 150 brave young people got a shot climbing the 7 meter high wall at their summer festivals in Bluebell, Fatima and Dolphin. The burst of sun shine and lack of rain added to the success of each of the community days for the volunteers and workers who had worked tirelessly to make these days fun and exciting for parents and kids- well done to everyone!

CCRYS staff and volunteers Claire, Rachel and Joanne and belay instructors Pat, Ger and Ciaran worked on the wall each day, helped at Dolphin House festival by Junior Leaders Dylan, Ray and Grahame.

In August the Climbing Wall will be off to the people of Thurles for a community day and then to Farmleigh House Dublin for another fun day out for all.
